Dosage and Duration of Use<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-custom-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-custom-color-5-background-color has-background is-style-wide\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall)\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The approved dosage guidelines recommend starting with 2 to 5 pills per day for adults (0.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day).<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.kr\/searchDrug\/result_drug.asp?drug_cd=A11AOOOOO2288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, many people find even 1 pill difficult, so typically, we start with 1 pill and increase to 2 pills a day if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The longer the treatment period, the lower the likelihood of recurrence. This is because the likelihood of recurrence is inversely proportional to the cumulative dose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a large-scale observational study published in 2025, relapse rates decrease as the cumulative dose increases, up to 120 mg per kg of body weight.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamadermatology\/fullarticle\/2829255\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">8<\/a><\/sup> At 0.25 mg per kg, this would require taking it for about 480 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"sec-4\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Side Effects and Precautions When Taking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-custom-color-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-custom-color-5-background-color has-background is-style-wide\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall)\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1152\" src=\"https:\/\/miragen.clinic\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/isotretinoin-safety-final-1.webp\" alt=\"An illustration summarizing precautions during and for one month after stopping Isotretinoin, including avoiding pregnancy, blood donation, breastfeeding, alcohol, and tetracycline antibiotics, as well as symptoms requiring immediate medical attention.\" class=\"wp-image-14987\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most common discomfort while taking Isotretinoin is dryness of the skin, lips, and eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nosebleeds, muscle pain, joint pain, headaches, and fatigue may also occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acne may temporarily worsen in the early stage of use.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.kr\/searchDrug\/result_drug.asp?drug_cd=A11AOOOOO2288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not recommended for children under 12 as it may affect growth, and it should be used with caution in those aged 12 to 17.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2026\/021951s029lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.kr\/searchDrug\/result_drug.asp?drug_cd=A11AOOOOO2288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you develop severe headaches unlike usual, nausea, vomiting, or blurred vision, you must stop taking it and seek medical care immediately.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2026\/021951s029lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.kr\/searchDrug\/result_drug.asp?drug_cd=A11AOOOOO2288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because it may cause fetal malformations, pregnancy and blood donation must be strictly avoided during use and for 1 month after completing use.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/pdf.hres.ca\/dpd_pm\/00080569.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the risk of systemic side effects cannot be excluded if it is transferred to the baby through breast milk, breastfeeding women should also avoid use.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2026\/021951s029lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.kr\/searchDrug\/result_drug.asp?drug_cd=A11AOOOOO2288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can raise triglyceride levels, and excessively elevated triglycerides carry a risk of acute pancreatitis, so abstaining from alcohol is recommended during treatment. This is because alcohol can also raise triglyceride levels.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2026\/021951s029lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.kr\/searchDrug\/result_drug.asp?drug_cd=A11AOOOOO2288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/medicines\/isotretinoin-roaccutane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10<\/a><\/sup> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tetracycline antibiotics, such as Doxycycline and Minocycline, must not be taken concurrently due to the risk of increased intracranial pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isotretinoin is started at least 7 days after discontinuing antibiotics. Conversely, when switching from Isotretinoin to antibiotics, a conservative interval of approximately 2 weeks is observed, taking into account the half-life of the major metabolites.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2026\/021951s029lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/bjd\/article-abstract\/174\/4\/929\/6617935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11<\/a><\/sup> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"sec-5\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.
