In the clinic, I\u2019m often asked by patients considering vascular laser treatment which of the two is better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They share some similarities, but because their wavelength configurations differ, the types of vessels they treat best also differ\u2014and the treatment cost can vary quite a bit due to whether consumables are required. I\u2019ll explain both devices so you can choose the laser that suits you better based on the color and thickness of visible vessels, cost, and post-treatment symptoms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rank-math-toc-block has-custom-color-5-color has-custom-color-2-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-203f634355967592ae51d3e6f23d3113\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);padding-right:0;padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--superbspacing-xsmall);padding-left:0\" id=\"rank-math-toc\"><h2>\ubaa9\ucc28<\/h2><nav><ul><li><a href=\"#sec-1\">Targets of Vbeam and Excel V<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#sec-2\">Wavelength Differences Between Vbeam and Excel V<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#sec-3\">Why Treatment Costs Differ<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#sec-faq\">Frequently Asked Questions<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"sec-1\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Targets of Vbeam and Excel V<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both lasers target hemoglobin inside blood vessels. When the laser is fired at hemoglobin, hemoglobin absorbs the light, generating heat that causes the vessel to shrink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These lasers work best for visibly enlarged vessels. Typical examples include the fine facial capillaries on the sides of the nose or on the cheeks as shown below, and cherry angiomas that protrude like small red dots. For why dilated vessels occur, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/miragen.clinic\/en\/telangiectasia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Telangiectasia Guide<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although there are clinical trials showing effectiveness for diffuse erythema\u2014what we commonly call \u201credness\u201d\u2014in my experience, it\u2019s difficult to expect meaningful improvement in redness with either laser alone.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/38600654\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1<\/a><\/sup> For those who have redness without visible vessels, improving the skin barrier and creating an environment where inflammation is less likely is a higher priority than laser treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1152\" src=\"https:\/\/miragen.clinic\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/telangiectasia-inline-final-3.webp\" alt=\"Clinical lateral photograph of an Asian woman showing fine red capillaries on the sides of the nose and upper cheeks, along with blue veins on the lower cheeks\" class=\"wp-image-11164\" title=\"Red capillaries and blue veins appearing together on the face\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"sec-2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wavelength Differences Between Vbeam and Excel V<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the components of skin, three absorb laser energy well: melanin, water, and hemoglobin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both devices emit lasers that are well absorbed by hemoglobin, but the type of laser they emit differs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Excel V\u2019s 532 laser is absorbed about 7.7 times more strongly by hemoglobin and about 1.45 times more strongly by melanin than Vbeam\u2019s 595 laser.<sup><a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/omlc.org\/spectra\/hemoglobin\/summary.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2<\/a>,<a style=\"color: inherit;\" href=\"https:\/\/omlc.org\/news\/jan98\/skinoptics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To selectively remove blood vessels, the laser needs to be well absorbed by hemoglobin and less absorbed by melanin and water. In theory, that means Excel V can produce better results with fewer side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clinical trials also support this theoretical difference. The crystals are long-lasting components and don\u2019t need periodic replacement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vbeam, on the other hand, uses a liquid dye\u2014called a dye\u2014as the lasing medium.
